Adhering to the original intention of its founder, Master Hsing Yun, to "give back to society", Fo Guang University has always been actively promoting university social responsibility, with the core mission of fulfilling social responsibility, enhancing sustainable development education, and implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To achieve these goals, the school has made every effort to obtain support from the Ministry of Education's USR program, and has achieved remarkable results through multiple efforts such as on-campus integration, training, plan writing and revision, and proposal briefings. On December 31, 2014, the Ministry of Education announced the review results of the University Social Responsibility (USR) program for the 2014-2017 (three-year period). Fo Guang University had three projects successfully approved and will receive up to NT$7.75 million in funding subsidies each year. The cumulative approved amount has reached NT$23.25 million, setting a historical high! Among them, the "LOHAS Yilan: Physical, Mental and Spiritual Health and Healing Talent Training Program (Case Program)" hosted by Professor Lu Wanan of the LoHAS Industry College won 3 million per year.

As the country is about to enter an ultra-aged society in 2025, governments at all levels, the medical care system and the general public are all taking seriously the risks and crises that will be brought about by the ultra-aging population structure. It is precisely because of the aging trend that people are paying more attention to the health of their body, mind and spirit. The public's awareness of paying attention to health issues and seeking physical and mental balance has begun to grow. The teachers and courses of our Lohas Industry College have been deeply engaged in physical, mental and spiritual health and healing for decades, and practical courses account for a high proportion of the total courses. Through this project, we will integrate the strength of all teachers in the college and combine with local professionals, organizations and businesses to build a center of health and healing based on the beautiful scenery and customs of Yilan.
