Here is the English translation of the provided text:Our university is guided by the spirit of humanities and the college system, with the motto "Righteousness, Justice, Morality, and Compassion." We emphasize life education and character development, striving to cultivate individuals who are both self-reliant and altruistic. Additionally, our location in Yilan, with its beautiful natural scenery and hot springs, has provided an ideal environment for accumulating research and curriculum development related to physical, mental, and spiritual well-being as well as industry trends in the LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) field. This foundation has nurtured the establishment of the Department of Future and LOHAS Industries.
Development History
At the university’s founding in 2000 (Year 89 of the ROC calendar), we established three graduate institutes: Life Studies, Religious Studies, and Future Studies. In 2002 (Academic Year 91), the Department of Religious Studies and the Department of Future Studies began enrolling undergraduate students.Recognizing the growing global awareness of holistic well-being and environmental sustainability, as well as the increasing demand for professionals in these fields, our institution integrated the Life Studies Institute, the Department of Religious Studies, and the Department of Future Studies between 2009 and 2012 (Academic Years 98 to 101). In 2012 (Academic Year 101), the Department of Future and LOHAS Industries was officially established, becoming the first academic department in Taiwan dedicated to LOHAS. Our mission is to cultivate forward-thinking individuals committed to sustainable and healthy living, who can create value in industries and contribute to society with care and insight.
In 2013 (Academic Year 102), the university established the College of LOHAS Industries, and our department was transferred from the College of Social Sciences and Management to this newly established college.
Initially, the department offered a bachelor’s program along with three master’s programs: Future Studies, Life Studies, and Religious Studies. Over time, our graduate programs underwent the following changes:
- 2015 (Academic Year 104): The Religious Studies master’s program became an independent graduate institute under the College of Humanities.
- 2016 (Academic Year 105): The Future Studies and Life Studies master’s programs were merged into one, renamed as Population Development and Future Studies and Integrated Health and Life Studies.
- 2019 (Academic Year 108): The Hospitality and Tourism Management program was introduced.
- 2020 (Academic Year 109): The department focused solely on the undergraduate program, while the College of LOHAS Industries took over the management of graduate programs.
