Department Overview and Evolution

Established in 2012, the Department of LOHAS Industry at Fo Guang University was founded in response to growing global concerns about holistic health, environmental sustainability, and social wellbeing. As the first and only academic department in Taiwan to be named after LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability), we are pioneers in cultivating forward-thinking talent committed to creating a healthier and more sustainable world.

Over the past decade, the department has steadily developed a unique academic structure that integrates Futures Studies with the practical application of LOHAS industries. Our core academic strengths are centered on two main pillars: Green Leisure and Integrated Health, enabling students to build strong expertise in health promotion, sustainable living, and innovative industry practices.

To better reflect our refined focus, the department was officially renamed the Department of LOHAS Industry in 2024 (Academic Year 113). In line with university-wide academic restructuring, we will join the newly formed School of Health, LOHAS, and Management in 2025 (Academic Year 114), combining health sciences, sustainability, and business innovation under one interdisciplinary platform.

Looking ahead, we are committed to advancing the core values of Health, Sustainability, and LOHAS Living. Through a balanced emphasis on theory and practice, global perspectives and local engagement, we aim to nurture socially responsible professionals who can lead positive change in the rapidly evolving wellness and sustainability sectors.
